If You Like It, Then You Shoulda Put a Pin on It: Introducing Instagram’s Top 3 Pinnable Posts

A new day, a new Instagram feature. There’s a bunch of change happening on Instagram at the moment, and while not all is relevant to business owners, some of it is absolutely Need to Know.

One of those? The Top 3 Pinnable Posts feature announced by Instagram head honcho Adam Mosseri on IG Live on June 7. Okay, sure, TikTok did it first, but it’s still a great way for creators to shape the experience of new users who happen to land on your IG profile (which you’ve optimized, right?)

In this blog we’ll be talking you through how to pin your top three posts to your Instagram grid – and what content will help business owners use this new feature to maximum business advantage. Ready? Let’s get pinning.

How to Pin your Top 3 Posts

Pinning a post is easy. Just:

1. Find and tap the photo you want to pin.

2. Click the three dots at the top-right of your screen.

3. On the pop-up that appears, tap “pin to your profile.” Too easy!

4. Check to see that the push-pin icon is appearing on the upper right hand side of your image on the grid to confirm!

Want more than 3 pinned posts? Don’t get greedy – the system won’t let you.

(No “pin to profile” option yet? Try updating your app. If it’s still a nope, just wait a little longer until the feature rolls out to everyone.)

Pin with ROI In Mind

Ready to get the most mileage out of those pinned posts? Here’s how I recommend using them:

Post 1 – Introduce yourself! Think about the first post in your top three as a “welcome mat.” Share who you are, what you do, and who you serve. A talking head Reel is a simple and effective way to get this key info across.

Post 2 – Talk about what problem you solve. Quickly and concisely sum up how you solve your target audience’s pain point. Remember that this is Instagram, so keep it visual!

Post 3 – Share an offer, promo or launch package. This is the place to toot your horn! Educate visitors on what you offer and why they need to be a part of it right now. (If this post talks about a limited-time offer, don’t forget to un-pin it after it expires!)

Some other great options for your pinned pics are:

Amplify top posts. If you have high-performing content that represents you well and deserves more eyeballs, whack it up top.

Quick concepts and tips. Transpose the LinkedIn “featured section” over to IG and reach a new audience. These three posts are a great way to share quick knowledge nuggets, tips, concepts or ideas.

Work with me! Looking to partner or collaborate? Create a simple post sharing how people can work with you and how to get in touch.

Testimonials and reviews. Elevate that social proof with some kind words and feedback about how great you are.

Products or sign-ups. If you offer an evergreen product, service or mailing list, talk it up and direct fans to your bio link to get them on it.
